How to compare ERPs

Six things to weigh before you choose.

Feature lists make every ERP look alike. These are the points that separate them on real projects.

  • 01

    Total cost of ownership

Licence, implementation and support over three to five years, not the year-one licence alone. A cheap licence with expensive customization is not cheap.

  • 02

    Time to go-live

How long until your team works in the new system. It decides how long you pay for two systems and how soon the benefits start.

  • 03

    Fit for how you operate

Product businesses need inventory, MRP and multi-warehouse; services firms need CRM, projects and billing. Fit beats feature count.

  • 04

    Customization and lock-in

Who can change the system, in what language, and what it costs. Open source and common languages keep you free to switch partners.

  • 05

    Partner and ecosystem

The partner network and app marketplace in your region decide how easy it is to get help and extend the system later.

  • 06

    Migration path

How your data gets in and gets reconciled, whether the old system can run in parallel, and who signs off before cutover.

Frequently asked questions

Which ERP is best for a small or mid-sized business?

It depends on what you do. Businesses that make, move or sell products usually fit Odoo; services firms and sales-led B2B often fit Zoho One; non-profits and education often fit ERPNext. SAP Business One and NetSuite earn their premium for large groups with complex consolidation, regulated industries or an IPO ahead. The fit finder on this page gives you a starting point.

Are these comparisons biased toward Odoo?

We're an Odoo partner, and we're also certified on Zoho and ERPNext and have inherited and implemented SAP Business One deployments. Every comparison lists where the other product leads, and each page says plainly when to pick it over Odoo.

How do the licence costs compare?

For 50 users in year one, we typically see about $15–25k for Odoo Enterprise (or free for Community), $90–150k for SAP Business One and $80–200k for NetSuite. Zoho One is $37 per user per month all-inclusive, and ERPNext is free, so you pay only for hosting and support. Implementation is on top in every case.

Can we migrate from our current ERP to Odoo?

Yes. We migrate from SAP Business One, NetSuite, Zoho and ERPNext, with reconciliation reports signed off before cutover. The migration cost calculator gives you an indicative range in minutes.

Can two of these systems run together?

Often, yes. Many of our clients run Zoho CRM and marketing on the front end with Odoo behind it, and companies leaving NetSuite sometimes keep it as the financial system of record for one audit cycle while Odoo runs operations.
