Odoo vs AutoCount for Malaysian SMEs: Odoo 20, MyInvois and Cost cover

Most "Odoo vs AutoCount" articles list modules and stop. This one adds Odoo 20, real license prices, MyInvois setup steps and a three-year cost view. If you already lean toward a move, our AutoCount to Odoo migration services start with a fit check, not a sales pitch.

This guide is for owners, finance managers and operations leads at Malaysian SMEs who run AutoCount today and feel it is getting tight. For other systems in the same decision, see our ERP comparison hub.

What is the real difference between Odoo and AutoCount?

Odoo vs AutoCount: Which one fits your SME?

The real difference is scope: AutoCount is accounting first with stock and sales attached, while Odoo is an ERP where every department works in the same database. The table sums up the points buyers ask about most.

AutoCount says more than 240,000 companies use AutoCount Accounting, backed by 300+ dealers. Odoo's strength is breadth: one record flows from quote to delivery to invoice to payment.

How does AutoCount pricing compare with Odoo pricing?

AutoCount Cloud Accounting pricing is lower for a small accounting team, while Odoo pricing covers far more apps per user. Compare what each price actually buys.

AutoCount Cloud Accounting lists four business plans, priced monthly and excluding SST:

  • Lite: RM70 a month, 1 user, aimed at start-ups and micro businesses.
  • Basic: RM100 a month, 2 users, aimed at professional services.
  • Plus: RM140 a month, 3 users, aimed at product trading.
  • Pro: RM180 a month, 3 users, with multi-warehouse stock.

Extra users cost RM10 a month on Lite and Basic and RM20 on Plus and Pro. Phone support carries a fee. Desktop AutoCount is sold by dealers, and we found no published list price.

On the Odoo pricing page, the US price billed yearly is US$31.10 per user a month for Standard and US$61.00 for Custom, with first-year prices of US$24.90 and US$49.00. Odoo shows prices in local currency by country, so check the ringgit figure for a Malaysian address.

Standard runs on Odoo Online. Custom adds Studio, multi-company, the external API and Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting. Our Odoo pricing guide explains each plan and the costs beyond licenses.

What does a three-year cost comparison look like?

For a five-user trading company, license costs are close; the bigger gap is implementation, which Odoo needs and AutoCount often does not. The figures below are illustrative and use list prices only.

Cost line (illustrative, 5 users)AutoCount Cloud PlusOdoo Standard
Monthly licenseRM140 plus 2 extra users at RM20 = RM1805 x US$31.10 = US$155.50 (billed yearly)
Year 1 licenseRM2,160 at monthly list priceUS$1,494 at first-year price
Years 2 and 3 licenseRM4,320US$3,732
Three-year license totalRM6,480 plus SSTUS$5,226 before any renewal rise
SetupNormally no setup fee; custom work extraSmall project US$3k to US$9k
Data migrationOften light inside AutoCountUS$1.2k to US$9k by source and history

We have not converted currencies, because the rate moves. Odoo renewals can rise up to 7% a year, and AutoCount's 12-month promotions can lower year one.

The honest read: if you only need accounting and MyInvois, AutoCount costs less to run. Odoo pays back when stock, purchasing, sales and production stop being re-keyed between tools.

Our Odoo implementation cost guide explains the setup ranges, and the free Odoo project estimate tool gives a first number.

Is Odoo ready for MyInvois e-invoicing in Malaysia?

Yes, Odoo e-invoice Malaysia support is built into the localization: Odoo submits invoices to MyInvois as your registered intermediary. The Odoo 20 Malaysia localization documentation lists the modules and the setup.

The MyInvois Odoo setup follows these steps:

  1. Install the modules: Malaysia Accounting, Malaysia Accounting Reports, Malaysia UBL PINT and Malaysia E-invoicing, plus the POS e-invoicing module if you run shops.
  2. Add Odoo on MyTax: in your taxpayer profile, add ODOO S.A. as an intermediary and grant submit, cancel and request rejection rights.
  3. Complete company data: enter your TIN, ID type and number, and the 5-digit industry classification code.
  4. Register in Odoo: choose pre-production or production mode in Accounting settings and click Register.
  5. Prepare master data: add TIN and ID details to contacts and a Malaysian classification code to every product.
  6. Test, then go live: send test invoices in pre-production before switching to production.

After setup, you click Send to MyInvois on a confirmed invoice. Odoo checks status hourly, allows cancellation within 72 hours, sends vendor bills as self-billed invoices and consolidates general public sales.

Each company in an Odoo database needs its own MyInvois connection and TIN.

AutoCount also has MyInvois built in, with TIN search, QR code upload, consolidated and self-billed e-invoices. Compliance alone rarely decides this choice.

Where do the MyInvois phases stand in November 2026?

All four MyInvois phases are now live, the last one from 1 January 2026, and the relaxation period for smaller taxpayers runs to 31 December 2027. The exemption threshold has moved several times, so confirm your own status.

PhaseAnnual turnover or revenueMandatory from
1Over RM100 million1 August 2024
2Over RM25 million to RM100 million1 January 2025
3Over RM5 million to RM25 million1 July 2025
4Up to RM5 million, unless exempt1 January 2026

The exemption rose from RM150,000 to RM500,000 in June 2025 and to RM1 million in December 2025, when the planned Phase 5 was dropped. Tax advisers report that LHDN's e-Invoice Guideline 4.8, dated 30 August 2026, raised it to RM3 million, with group and shareholder tests.

LHDN's timeline page still showed RM1 million when we checked on 3 November 2026. Ask your tax agent which figure applies to you before you plan around an exemption.

Since 1 January 2026, any single sale over RM10,000 needs its own e-invoice, not a consolidated one. And penalties under Section 120 of the Income Tax Act 1967 run from RM200 to RM20,000 per offence once relaxation ends.

Odoo Malaysia accounting: SST, reports and payroll

Odoo Malaysia accounting covers SST taxes and SST-02 reports out of the box, but payroll needs a separate plan. Here is what the localization gives you and what it does not.

The Odoo SST Malaysia setup installs Sales and Purchase Goods taxes at 5% and 10%, Services taxes at 6% and 8%, plus Exempt and Not Applicable. Service taxes can run on a cash basis. Tax reports include SST-02 (B1), SST-02 (B2, C, D, E) and SST-02A.

For SST-02, goods need a customs tariff (HS) code and services a service type code on the product. Set these during migration.

Odoo payroll Malaysia support is the gap. The Odoo 20 payroll localizations list does not include Malaysia, so EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB are not preconfigured. Most clients keep a local payroll tool and post one monthly journal into Odoo.

For journals, taxes and reconciliation, see our guide on how Odoo Accounting works.

Where does AutoCount beat Odoo?

AutoCount is the better choice for accounting-led SMEs that want local support and a low monthly bill. In these cases we would tell you to stay.

  • Low running cost: a three-user cloud plan with MyInvois included starts at RM140 a month.
  • Local ecosystem: 300+ dealers and 200+ training centers mean accountants and staff often know it already.
  • Malaysian payroll: AutoCount's own payroll and HRMS products handle local statutory rules.
  • Fast start: an accounting-only business can be live without an ERP project.

Where does Odoo beat AutoCount?

Odoo wins once your business needs one system across sales, stock, purchasing, production and finance. These are the reasons growing Malaysian SMEs most often look for an AutoCount alternative.

  • One database: a sales order reserves stock, triggers a purchase, posts the invoice and updates cash, without exports.
  • Manufacturing: Odoo MRP covers bills of materials, work orders, routings and quality checks.
  • Several companies: multi-company and intercompany rules are built in on the Custom plan.
  • Front office: CRM, website, eCommerce and POS sit in the same system as accounting.
  • AI on documents: Odoo 20 reads vendor bills with IAP credits, from EUR 0.15 down to EUR 0.05 per document, with 200 free.
  • Hosting choice: run Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers, and keep a full copy of your database.

Which is better for your industry, Odoo or AutoCount?

AutoCount fits services firms and simple traders, while Odoo fits distributors, manufacturers and multi-channel retailers. The table shows where each one usually lands in Malaysia.

How does an AutoCount to Odoo migration work?

An AutoCount to Odoo migration moves master data, open items and opening balances, then rebuilds your processes in Odoo. Plan it as a new implementation.

  1. Fit check: list your processes, users, entities and reports, and confirm what Odoo replaces.
  2. Data export: export customers, suppliers, items, chart of accounts, open invoices, open bills and stock balances from AutoCount.
  3. Mapping: map accounts to Odoo's Malaysian chart, and add TIN, ID and classification codes for MyInvois.
  4. Import: load files with Odoo's import tools using external IDs, in small batches.
  5. MyInvois test: register in pre-production and send sample invoices, credit notes and self-billed bills.
  6. Parallel run: run one short period in both systems and reconcile SST and trial balance.
  7. Cutover: switch at a month end, keep AutoCount read-only for history and audit.

Our Xero to Odoo migration guide uses the same cutover pattern.

Odoo vs AutoCount case study: KMF Technologies

An IT services and hardware distributor replaced manual product tracking with one Odoo system in 8 weeks. It is not a Malaysian firm, but its starting point matches many AutoCount traders.

KMF Technologies, in The Gambia, tracked products and categories in hand-kept lists. Sales, purchase and store teams could not see each other's data, so customers waited while staff checked stock with each team.

We ran a seven-phase rollout of Sales, Purchase, Inventory and Accounting, imported the full product master with cost and sale prices, built a chart of accounts for The Gambia, and created custom quotation, sales order, invoice and purchase order formats.

The result: live stock across warehouses and fewer entry errors. Read the KMF Technologies Odoo inventory case study.

The bottom line on Odoo vs AutoCount

Stay on AutoCount if accounting and MyInvois are all you need; move to Odoo when stock, sales, purchasing and production need to live in one system. Both handle e-invoicing, so let operations decide.

Price three years on both sides, plan payroll before you switch, and test MyInvois in pre-production first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Odoo better than AutoCount?

+

Neither is better for everyone. AutoCount suits accounting-led SMEs that want low cost and local support. Odoo suits companies that need sales, stock, purchasing, production and accounting in one database.

Does Odoo support MyInvois in Malaysia?

+

Yes. Odoo's Malaysia e-invoicing module submits invoices, credit notes and self-billed bills to MyInvois. You add ODOO S.A. as an intermediary on MyTax and register each company with its own TIN.

How much does AutoCount Cloud Accounting cost?

+

AutoCount lists cloud plans at RM70, RM100, RM140 and RM180 a month, with 1 to 3 users included and SST extra. Extra users cost RM10 or RM20 a month. MyInvois e-invoicing is included in all plans.

Does Odoo have Malaysian payroll?

+

Not as standard. Malaysia is not on Odoo 20's payroll localization list, so EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB are not preconfigured. Most SMEs keep a local payroll tool and post a monthly journal into Odoo.

Can I migrate from AutoCount to Odoo?

+

Yes. Export customers, suppliers, items, chart of accounts, open items and stock from AutoCount, map them, and import into Odoo. Most firms move opening balances and keep closed years in AutoCount as read-only history.
