Odoo vs Dynamics 365 Business Central for 2026: modules, Essentials vs Premium pricing, implementation cost, upgrades and how to migrate to Odoo 20.
Most "Odoo vs Dynamics 365" pages compare logos, skip prices and never name a version. This guide compares Odoo 20 with Business Central on modules, licence cost, implementation and migration. Our Odoo consulting services start with the same honest fit check.
It is written for owners, CFOs and IT leads at growing companies who have a Business Central quote on the table or run NAV today. For other options, see our ERP comparison hub, which covers SAP, NetSuite, Zoho and ERPNext.
What is the difference between Odoo and Dynamics 365 Business Central?

The main difference between Odoo and Dynamics 365 Business Central is the model: Odoo is one modular ERP priced per user with every app included, while Business Central is a finance-led ERP inside the Microsoft stack, with add-ons licensed separately. The table sums up what buyers ask most.
| Factor | Odoo 20 | Dynamics 365 Business Central |
|---|---|---|
| Model | One ERP, all apps on one database | Finance and operations ERP inside Microsoft 365 |
| List price (US, yearly billing) | US$31.10 Standard, US$61.00 Custom | US$80 Essentials, US$110 Premium |
| Manufacturing | Included in every plan | Premium plan only |
| CRM | Odoo CRM included | Basic relationship management; Dynamics 365 Sales is separate |
| Limited users | Light User US$8.90 | Team Members US$8 |
| How you buy | Direct from Odoo or via a partner | Only through Microsoft CSP partners |
| Upgrades | One major version a year, three years of support | Two major updates a year, scheduled by Microsoft |
| Hosting | Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers | Microsoft cloud for the online version |
Both are serious ERPs. The right one depends on your Microsoft footprint, the apps you need and how much you will customize.
Which Dynamics 365 product should you compare with Odoo?
For most small and mid-sized companies, the right Dynamics 365 product to compare with Odoo is Business Central. "Microsoft Dynamics" is a family of products, so name the one in your quote before you compare.
| Dynamics 365 product | What it does | How it compares with Odoo |
|---|---|---|

How do Odoo and Business Central modules compare?
Odoo and Business Central cover the same core of finance, sales, purchasing and stock, but Odoo includes more front-office apps in one price. Business Central keeps its core strong and leans on Microsoft apps and partner extensions for the rest.
Microsoft lists the functional areas Business Central supports: finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, projects, fixed assets, relationship management, HR records, planning, assembly, manufacturing, warehouse and service management.
| Area | Odoo 20 | Business Central |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting and finance | Odoo Accounting, multi-company on Custom | Strong core finance, budgets, fixed assets |
| Sales and CRM | Odoo CRM and Sales in the same price | Relationship management; full CRM is Dynamics 365 Sales |
| Inventory and warehouse | Multi-warehouse, routes, barcode | Inventory and warehouse management |
| Manufacturing | MRP, work orders, quality, PLM | Manufacturing on the Premium plan |
| Service | Helpdesk, Field Service, Repair | Service management on the Premium plan |
| HR | Employees, leave, appraisals, payroll in many countries | Employee records and absences |
| Website and eCommerce | Website, eCommerce and POS built in | Partner apps or a separate store |
The gap shows on the front office. A company that wants CRM, website, helpdesk and HR in the same system gets them in Odoo without adding a second Microsoft product.
Odoo vs Business Central pricing: what do licences cost in 2026?
Business Central costs more per user than Odoo at list price: US$80 or US$110 a month against US$31.10 or US$61.00, all billed yearly. Business Central also raised its prices on 1 November 2025.
The Business Central pricing page lists Essentials at US$80.00, Premium at US$110.00 and Team Members at US$8.00 per user a month, paid yearly. Premium adds service management and manufacturing.
Microsoft called it the first Business Central price increase in more than five years: Essentials went from US$70 to US$80, Premium from US$100 to US$110, and the device licence from US$40 to US$45 a month.
On the Odoo pricing page, the US price billed yearly is US$31.10 per user a month for Standard and US$61.00 for Custom, with first-year prices of US$24.90 and US$49.00. One App Free covers a single app for unlimited users.
Odoo 20 also added the Light User at US$8.90 a month for staff who need limited access. In India, Standard is Rs 725 and Custom is Rs 1,350 per user a month; the Light User is Rs 195.
Custom is the Odoo plan most Business Central buyers should price, as it adds Studio, multi-company, the external API and Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting. Our Odoo pricing guide lists the costs beyond licences.
What does a 20-user licence bill look like on each?
For an illustrative 20-user company, Odoo Custom costs about US$8,400 a year in licences against about US$14,200 for Business Central Premium. The numbers below use list prices billed yearly and are illustrative, not quotes.
| Illustrative scenario (US list, yearly) | Odoo 20 | Business Central |
|---|---|---|
| 20 full users, entry plan | Standard: US$7,464 | Essentials: US$19,200 |
| 20 full users, with manufacturing | Custom: US$14,640 | Premium: US$26,400 |
| 10 full users plus 10 limited users | Custom plus Light: US$8,388 | Premium plus Team Members: US$14,160 |
| Add full CRM for 5 sales users | Included | Sales Professional: US$3,900 more |
Dynamics 365 Sales Professional lists at US$65.00 per user a month billed yearly, which is where the CRM row comes from. Your partner may quote different terms, so ask for the five-year total.
Licences are only part of the bill. Implementation, data migration, integrations, training and support often add more than the licences over five years on either platform.
How do implementation cost and timeline compare?
Implementation cost depends far more on your scope and partner than on the software, but Odoo projects usually start smaller because fewer separate products are involved. Microsoft does not publish Business Central implementation fees; partners quote by scope.
Our published Odoo implementation cost ranges are a guide, not a fixed quote:
- Small business: US$3,000 to US$9,000, about 4 to 8 weeks.
- Mid-size business: US$9,000 to US$27,000, about 8 to 14 weeks.
- Large or multi-company: US$27,000 to US$150,000 or more, about 12 to 24 weeks.
- Data migration: US$1,200 to US$9,000, depending on the source system and years of history.
Business Central licences can only be bought through Microsoft CSP partners, so the partner who sells your licences usually runs the project too. Ask every bidder for the same scope, the same data volume and a line-by-line estimate.
For a quick Odoo number on your own scope, use the Odoo implementation cost calculator. It gives a range you can hold up against a Business Central proposal.
How do upgrades, customization and integrations differ?
Business Central online updates on Microsoft's schedule twice a year, while Odoo upgrades are a yearly choice you plan with your partner. That difference shapes how you customize each system.
Microsoft's Business Central update timeline has two major releases, in April and October, and minor updates in the other months. You can reschedule a major update within a five-month update period, then a one-month grace period.
After that the update is enforced, and extensions that make it fail might be uninstalled automatically. Keep extensions current, or a failed update can switch off the custom feature your team relies on.
Odoo ships one major version a year. Odoo 20 was released in September 2026, and each major version gets three years of standard support. Databases older than the three most recent major versions pay a 25% legacy surcharge.
On integrations, both have open APIs. In Odoo 20, XML-RPC and JSON-RPC are deprecated in the external API docs, with removal scheduled for Odoo 22. Our JSON-2 API migration guide shows how to move.
Where does Business Central beat Odoo?
Business Central is the stronger choice when your company already runs on Microsoft 365 and your partner network matters more than licence cost. These are the cases where we would tell you to stay or start there.
- Microsoft 365 fit: Outlook, Excel, Teams and Power BI connect natively, and staff already know the screens.
- Teams read access: Microsoft 365 users can read Business Central data in Teams without a Business Central licence, although they cannot edit, and at least one other user must hold a licence.
- Finance depth: budgets, account schedules, fixed assets and approval workflows are mature.
- Partner network: many local partners and a large app marketplace for country and industry needs.
- Shared devices: the device licence lets several people share a warehouse, shop floor or POS device.
Where does Odoo beat Business Central?
Odoo wins when you want sales, operations, HR and website in one system at a lower per-user price, with more control over hosting and code. These are the reasons growing firms most often pick it as a Dynamics 365 Business Central alternative.
- All apps, one price: CRM, manufacturing, helpdesk, HR, website and eCommerce sit in the same licence.
- Lower licence cost: list prices are well below Business Central at every tier we compared.
- Hosting choice: run Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers, and keep a full copy of your database.
- Customization: Studio covers fields, views and reports, and Python modules cover the rest.
- Upgrade timing: you choose when to move to a new major version, within the support window.
- AI on credits: Odoo 20 AI runs on Odoo AI IAP credits at EUR 1 per credit, while Copilot Studio agents need an Azure subscription and Copilot credits.

Which fits your industry, Odoo or Business Central?
Business Central fits finance-led distributors and services firms inside Microsoft 365, while Odoo fits manufacturers, retailers and companies that want front office and back office together. The table shows where each one usually lands.
| Industry | Pain or cost driver | Odoo approach | How iVentureTeam helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing | Business Central needs Premium for production | MRP, quality and maintenance in every plan | Map BOMs and routings, set up Odoo MRP |
| Wholesale and distribution | Many warehouse and limited users | Routes, barcode, Light Users | Design routes, migrate stock |
| Retail and eCommerce | Store, POS and stock in separate tools | Website, eCommerce and POS built in | Connect channels to one stock ledger |
| Professional services | CRM licensed apart from projects | CRM, projects, timesheets, billing in one place | Set up billing rules and margins |
| Field service and repair | Service management on Premium | Field Service, Repair and Helpdesk | Build dispatch and parts flows |
Manufacturers often feel the Premium gap first. Our page on Odoo ERP for manufacturing shows how production, stock and costing run in one database.
How do you move from Business Central or NAV to Odoo?
Moving from Business Central or Dynamics NAV to Odoo is a reimplementation: master data and open items move cleanly, while history, extensions and reports take the real effort. Plan it in clear steps.
- Scope: list the companies, modules, extensions and reports you use today, and drop what nobody opens.
- Export: pull customers, vendors, items, chart of accounts, open orders, open invoices and stock by location.
- Map: match Business Central dimensions, posting groups and item tracking to Odoo analytic accounts, accounts and lots.
- Load and test: import into an Odoo test database, then run your top ten processes end to end.
- History: keep closed years in Business Central read-only or as an export, and bring opening balances into Odoo.
- Cutover: freeze entries, load final balances, run a short parallel period and then switch off.
Some companies keep Business Central for finance at first. One Odoo forum user asked about a one-way sync from Business Central into Odoo for customers, items, VAT codes and invoices. Our Odoo migration services cover both routes.
How do you decide between Odoo and Dynamics 365?
Answer six questions honestly and the choice between Odoo and Dynamics 365 Business Central is usually clear. If most point to Odoo, get an Odoo estimate; if most point to Business Central, stay and tune it.
- Microsoft footprint: how much of your work already lives in Outlook, Teams, Excel and Power BI?
- Apps: will you need CRM, website, helpdesk or HR in the same system within two years?
- Production: do you make products, which pushes Business Central to Premium?
- Users: how many people need full access, and how many only light access?
- Change: do you need custom workflows, and can you keep them current twice a year?
- Hosting: do you need your own servers or a full database copy?
Still weighing NetSuite or SAP as well? The same six questions work for any ERP shortlist.

Odoo vs Dynamics 365 case study: Chetan Plastics
A plastics-printing manufacturer needed sales, purchase, stock, manufacturing and repair in one system, which is the module spread that pushes Business Central to Premium. Chetan Plastics, in Ahmedabad, ran all of it from a shared Excel file.
Custom print jobs used block-based pricing calculated by hand, quotations were re-keyed for repeat orders, and nothing linked a CRM job to its sales order, purchase order or delivery paperwork.
We connected six core Odoo modules, from Sales to Repair, rebuilt the block calculator inside order lines, and added two-step validation on sales and purchase confirmations. The rollout was phased over 16 weeks.
The company now runs quote-to-cash and procure-to-pay on one system, with vendors getting automatic WhatsApp updates. Read the Chetan Plastics Odoo manufacturing case study.
The bottom line on Odoo vs Dynamics 365
Choose Business Central if Microsoft 365 is the center of your company and finance drives the project; choose Odoo if you want every app in one system at a lower licence cost. Both work well with a good partner.
Name the Dynamics 365 products in your quote, price five years on both sides with the same scope, and test your three most important processes in each. The answer is usually clear after that.
