Odoo vs Dolibarr: Features, 3-Year Cost, and Migration Path (2026)
Odoo vs Dolibarr compared for 2026: Odoo 20 against Dolibarr 24 on features, 3-year cost for 10 users, hosting, upgrades and how to migrate Dolibarr to Odoo.
Most Odoo vs Dolibarr articles stop at a feature list. Buyers want to know what each system costs over three years, where Dolibarr runs out of road, and how hard it is to move later. Our Odoo implementation services team answers those questions every week.
This guide is for founders, finance leads and IT managers at companies with 2 to 100 users who are choosing an open source ERP or have outgrown Dolibarr. If ERPNext is also on your list, read our Odoo 20 vs ERPNext comparison next.
What is Dolibarr, and how does it differ from Odoo?

Dolibarr is a French open source ERP and CRM written in PHP, while Odoo is a Belgian open core ERP written in Python with a free Community edition and a paid Enterprise edition. The two projects started from very different ambitions.
Dolibarr describes itself as web-based ERP and CRM for SMEs, freelancers and associations, with the Dolibarr association founded in 2009. The GitHub project lists around 100 modules by default and 1,000+ add-ons on DoliStore under the GPL-3 license.
Odoo grew from TinyERP and OpenERP into a suite of 50+ apps on one PostgreSQL database. Odoo 20 was released in September 2026, and Odoo's support table lists standard support to September 2029 for it.
| Factor | Odoo 20 | Dolibarr 24 |
|---|---|---|
| Latest major release | Odoo 20.0, September 2026 | Dolibarr 24.0, 20 August 2026 |
| License | Community LGPL-3, Enterprise commercial | GPL-3 |
| Stack | Python 3.12+, PostgreSQL 16+ | PHP 7.2+, MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL |
| Release rhythm | One major a year, 3 years standard support | About two majors a year |
| Pricing model | Free Community, or per user per month | Free; pay only for hosting and add-ons |
| Hosting | Odoo Online, Odoo.sh, on-premise | Self-host, DoliCloud or other providers |
| Multi-company | Built in | External MultiCompany module |
Dolibarr is deliberately small and cheap to run. Odoo is larger, moves faster and asks more of you in setup and, for Enterprise, in license fees.
Which is better for a small business, Odoo or Dolibarr?
Dolibarr is better for a very small business that needs quotes, invoices and contacts today, while Odoo is better for a small business that expects to add stock, production, a web shop or a second company. Size matters less than direction.
A consultancy with three people and 40 invoices a month will be well served by Dolibarr for years. A trading company with two warehouses and a web shop will feel its limits within a year.
Dolibarr's own wiki is refreshingly honest about what Dolibarr cannot do. It has no payroll module, project tasks cannot depend on each other, and double-entry accounting exists but "reports are not yet complete". Running several companies needs the paid MultiCompany module.
Odoo covers all of those in the standard product, but most Odoo projects go better with a partner, and that is a real cost to put in your comparison.
How do Odoo and Dolibarr compare on features?
Both systems handle the basics of selling, buying, stock and invoicing, but Odoo goes much deeper in accounting, manufacturing, eCommerce and HR. The module-by-module view shows where the gap sits.
| Area | Odoo 20 | Dolibarr 24 |
|---|---|---|
| CRM and sales | Pipeline, quotes, eSign, subscriptions, rental | Prospects, proposals, orders, contracts |
| Accounting | Full accounting in Enterprise, Invoicing in Community | Invoicing plus a double-entry module with limited reports |
| Inventory | Multi-warehouse, routes, barcode, lots and serials, landed costs | Stock, warehouses, lots and serials, shipments |
| Manufacturing | BOMs, work orders, work centers, quality, PLM, maintenance | BOM and manufacturing order modules |
| Website and eCommerce | Website builder, eCommerce, blog, live chat | Simple CMS and website module |
| Point of sale | Full POS for retail and restaurants | Basic POS (TakePOS) |
| HR | Employees, leave, expenses, recruitment, payroll | Employees, leave, expenses, no payroll |
| Customization | Studio, Python modules, 40,000+ apps | Module Builder, PHP modules, DoliStore add-ons |
| API | JSON-2 API, XML-RPC and JSON-RPC deprecated | REST API |
Manufacturing shows the gap most clearly. Dolibarr's Manufacturing Orders module brings basic MRP features on top of the BOM module. Odoo adds work centers, routings, quality checks and maintenance, which is why factories pick it; see our page on Odoo for manufacturing companies.
A Dolibarr user on the project's own forum summed up the trade-off in 2024 while wiring BOMs to warehouses: "even though Dolibarr is not 100% there it is the best there is at the moment" for their budget.
What does Odoo vs Dolibarr cost over 3 years?
For 10 users, Dolibarr costs nothing in licenses and roughly EUR 5,000 over three years on DoliCloud, while Odoo ranges from zero on Community to about US$10,500 on Standard and US$20,500 on Custom at list prices. Implementation sits on top of all of these.
The table uses list prices in October 2026, 10 internal users, no renewal increases and no discounts beyond Odoo's published first-year price. Hosting lines are illustrative.
| Option (10 users, 3 years) | Software and hosting | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Dolibarr, self-hosted | US$0 software, about US$720 for a small VPS (illustrative) | All core modules, you handle backups and updates |
| Dolibarr on DoliCloud Basic | EUR 5,040 (EUR 14 per user a month) | Hosting, daily backups, 4 GB, 2,000 API calls a month |
| Odoo Community, self-hosted | US$0 software, about US$1,440 for a VPS (illustrative) | Most apps, no full Accounting, no Studio |
| Odoo Standard (Online) | US$10,452 | All apps, Odoo Online hosting, upgrades |
| Odoo Custom (Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise) | US$20,520 | Adds Studio, multi-company, external API |
DoliCloud lists Basic at EUR 14 per user a month and Premium at EUR 30 a month plus EUR 15 per user, both with a 30-day trial. Basic caps email at 250 a day and includes 2,000 API calls a month, which matters if you plan integrations.
Odoo's US price billed yearly is US$31.10 per user a month for Standard and US$61.00 for Custom, with first-year prices of US$24.90 and US$49.00. India pays Rs 725 and Rs 1,350. Our Odoo pricing guide covers Light Users, renewals and the legacy surcharge.
Then add implementation. Our published Odoo implementation cost ranges run from US$3,000 to US$9,000 for a small company over 4 to 8 weeks. Dolibarr has no published equivalent; a basic invoicing setup is often a few days of configuration, while stock and accounting setups need a partner.
Odoo Community vs Dolibarr: the free-to-free comparison
If you refuse to pay license fees, Odoo Community still offers more modules than Dolibarr, but Dolibarr is easier to host and includes a double-entry accounting module that Community lacks. This is the comparison most self-hosters should make.
Odoo Community ships CRM, Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Invoicing, Project, Website, eCommerce and POS. It does not include the full Accounting app, Studio, Quality, PLM, Helpdesk or Payroll. Our Odoo Community vs Enterprise guide lists every difference.
Dolibarr includes its accounting module for free, though with incomplete reports, and runs on the kind of PHP shared hosting that costs a few dollars a month. Odoo 20 needs Python 3.12 and PostgreSQL 16, so you need a VPS and someone who can administer it.
- Pick Dolibarr when you have 1 to 5 users, mostly invoicing and contacts, and no in-house technical help.
- Pick Odoo Community when you have stock, production or a web shop and a developer or partner who can host and upgrade it.
- Pick Odoo Enterprise when accounting depth, upgrades and support matter more than the license fee.
How do hosting, upgrades and support differ between Odoo and Dolibarr?
Dolibarr relies on community forums, volunteer partners and your own upgrade work, while Odoo offers vendor hosting, a free upgrade service for Enterprise and thousands of partners. This gap is often what finally pushes companies to switch.
- Hosting: Dolibarr runs almost anywhere PHP runs. Odoo gives you three paths, compared in our Odoo Online vs Odoo.sh vs on-premise guide.
- Upgrades: Dolibarr ships about two majors a year; its version table shows 22.0 in July 2025, 23.0 in February 2026 and 24.0 in August 2026. Odoo ships one major a year with three years of standard support.
- Support: Dolibarr support is community-first. Odoo Enterprise includes helpdesk support and bug fixes during standard support.
- Add-ons: DoliStore quality varies. A 2022 forum thread complained that free DoliStore modules are outdated and paid ones lack demos, and a reply pointed users to paid Preferred Partners.
- Partners: A POS business owner in 2020 could not find a complete Dolibarr solution and announced "Decided to move to ODOO" after weeks of searching.
Traffic runs both ways: the same forum has a 2025 thread asking how to migrate from Odoo to Dolibarr. Match the tool to the company.
Where does Dolibarr beat Odoo?
Dolibarr wins on cost to run, simplicity and freedom from any vendor, which is exactly what a very small company needs. We would tell these businesses to start on Dolibarr or stay there.
- Zero license fees: every module is free, including accounting, with no per-user meter.
- Light hosting: PHP and MySQL on a shared host is enough, so a web agency can host it for you.
- Fast first invoice: a freelancer can install Dolibarr and send a quote the same afternoon.
- One vendor less: no Enterprise agreement, no renewal increases, no legacy surcharge.
- French market fit: strong French localization and a large French-speaking community and partner base.
Where does Odoo beat Dolibarr?
Odoo wins when the business needs depth: full accounting, real manufacturing, several companies, a web shop tied to stock, and a product that will keep improving. These are the reasons companies move from Dolibarr to Odoo.
- One database for everything: CRM, sales, stock, MRP, accounting, HR, website and POS share one set of records.
- Accounting: bank sync, reconciliation, multi-currency, consolidation and country localizations in Enterprise.
- Manufacturing: work centers, routings, quality, maintenance and PLM, not just BOMs.
- Multi-company: built into the Custom plan, with intercompany transactions.
- Ecosystem: 40,000+ apps, thousands of partners and a public roadmap that ships every year.
- AI: Odoo 20 ships AI features on Odoo AI IAP credits at EUR 1 per credit, something Dolibarr does not offer natively.
How do you migrate Dolibarr to Odoo?
A Dolibarr to Odoo migration is a standard ERP data move: export masters and open items from Dolibarr, map them to Odoo models, import with external IDs, then test and cut over. Plan it as a new implementation, not a copy.
- Scope the data: customers, suppliers, products, price lists, open quotes and orders, open invoices, stock on hand and the opening trial balance. History usually stays in Dolibarr as a read-only archive.
- Export: use Dolibarr's export datasets or its REST API to pull CSV files per object.
- Map: Dolibarr third parties become Odoo partners, proposals become quotations, and the chart of accounts is rebuilt on Odoo's localization.
- Import: load files with Odoo's import tool using external IDs so re-runs update instead of duplicate.
- Reconcile: match stock quantities, receivables and payables between both systems before go-live.
- Train and cut over: run a short parallel period, then switch Dolibarr to read-only.
Our published data migration range is US$1,200 to US$9,000 depending on the source system and years of history. The free Odoo migration cost calculator gives you a first number, and our Odoo migration services handle the export, mapping and cutover.
Integrations need a rethink too. Odoo 20 serves its JSON-2 API and marks XML-RPC and JSON-RPC as deprecated, with removal scheduled for Odoo 22, so any script that talked to Dolibarr's REST API will be rewritten anyway.
Which fits your industry, Odoo or Dolibarr?
Dolibarr fits services, associations and micro-businesses, while Odoo fits manufacturers, distributors, retailers and any group with several entities. The table shows the usual outcome.

| Manufacturing | BOMs, work orders, quality | MRP, work centers, quality, maintenance | Shop floor setup and training |
| Retail and eCommerce | Web shop tied to stock and POS | Website, eCommerce, POS on one stock ledger | Channel and payment integration |
| Groups with several companies | Consolidation, intercompany | Multi-company on the Custom plan | Entity setup and consolidation |
How do you decide between Odoo and Dolibarr?
Answer five questions and the choice is usually obvious. If three or more answers point to Odoo, price an Odoo project; if not, Dolibarr will serve you well for now.
- Growth: will you have more than 10 users or a second company within three years?
- Operations: do you manufacture, run several warehouses or sell online with live stock?
- Finance: do you need full accounting reports, bank sync and consolidation inside the ERP?
- Support: do you want a vendor and partner behind the system, or are forums enough?
- Budget: can you fund a partner-led implementation, or must the total stay near zero?

Odoo vs Dolibarr case study: KMF Technologies
KMF Technologies is the kind of company that often shortlists Dolibarr: a small IT services and hardware distributor that had outgrown manual tracking. Based in The Gambia, it supplies hardware and network infrastructure to institutions across West Africa.
Products and categories lived in hand-maintained lists, departments could not see each other's data, and the business had no real-time stock visibility, which led to both overstocking and stock-outs. Customers waited while staff checked with each team.
iVentureTeam ran a seven-phase implementation of Odoo Sales, Purchase, Inventory and Accounting over 8 weeks. The team set up warehouses, locations and units of measure, built four custom PDF formats, created a chart of accounts for The Gambia and imported the full product master with checks.
KMF now runs an integrated purchase-to-delivery workflow with live stock across warehouses and fewer entry errors. Its director said: "Inventory in Odoo matches the shelf, and purchasing finally runs on real numbers." Read the KMF Technologies Odoo inventory case study.
The bottom line on Odoo vs Dolibarr
Choose Dolibarr if you are a freelancer or a very small team that needs free invoicing, contacts and simple stock; choose Odoo if you need full accounting, manufacturing, eCommerce, several companies or a system that scales with you. Both are good open source tools, aimed at different companies.
Price three years on each side, including implementation and your own admin time, and test your three most important processes in both. If Dolibarr will handle them for three years, keep your money. If not, an Odoo project now costs less than a forced migration later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dolibarr better than Odoo?
+
Dolibarr is better for freelancers and very small teams that need free invoicing, contacts and simple stock. Odoo is better for companies that need full accounting, manufacturing, eCommerce, several companies or a partner ecosystem behind the system.
Is Dolibarr completely free?
+
Yes. Dolibarr is released under the GPL-3 license, and all core modules are free to download and self-host. You pay only for hosting, optional DoliStore add-ons and any partner help. DoliCloud hosting starts at EUR 14 per user a month.
What are the limitations of Dolibarr?
+
Dolibarr's own wiki says it has no payroll module, project tasks cannot depend on each other, and its double-entry accounting reports are not yet complete. Running several companies needs the external MultiCompany module, and manufacturing covers BOMs and orders only.
How much does Odoo cost compared with Dolibarr?
+
Odoo Community is free like Dolibarr. Odoo Enterprise in the US costs US$31.10 per user a month for Standard and US$61.00 for Custom billed yearly, with lower first-year prices. For 10 users over three years that is about US$10,500 or US$20,500 before implementation.
Can I migrate from Dolibarr to Odoo?
+
Yes. Export third parties, products, open documents, stock and the opening balance from Dolibarr, map them to Odoo models, and import with external IDs. Most projects move masters and open items only and keep history in Dolibarr as a read-only archive.
How long does a Dolibarr to Odoo migration take?
+
A focused move of master data, open items and opening balances for a small company usually fits inside a 4 to 8 week implementation. Manufacturing setup, custom reports and integrations add time, so plan a short parallel run before switching Dolibarr off.
Does Dolibarr support manufacturing?
+
Dolibarr includes BOM and Manufacturing Orders modules for basic production. It does not offer work centers, routings, quality checks or maintenance, which are standard in Odoo Manufacturing. Light assembly works; a real shop floor usually needs Odoo.
Which is easier to host, Odoo or Dolibarr?
+
Dolibarr is easier. It runs on PHP with MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL, so shared hosting is enough. Odoo 20 needs Python 3.12 and PostgreSQL 16 on a VPS, or you can let Odoo host it on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh.
Is Dolibarr a good Odoo alternative for a small business?
+
For a business with a handful of users and simple needs, yes. It is free, light and quick to set up. Once you need multi-warehouse stock, full accounting, a web shop tied to inventory or more than one company, Odoo is the stronger choice.
