weclapp vs Odoo 20: Cost, Fit and When Switching Pays Off for SMEs cover

Most weclapp vs Odoo articles stop at a feature list. The real question for an SME is when the move pays for itself. Our Odoo migration services start with that number, built from your users, plans and processes.

This guide is for owners, CFOs and operations leads at DACH SMEs who run or shortlist weclapp. If you want a weclapp alternative from a wider list, our ERP comparison hub covers Odoo against SAP, NetSuite, Zoho and others.

What is the real difference between weclapp and Odoo?

The real difference is that weclapp is a closed, vendor-hosted cloud ERP sold in fixed packages, while Odoo is a modular ERP on one database that you can host, extend and price per user with every app included. The table sums up what buyers ask about most.

weclapp says customer data is stored only in data centers in Germany, under German law contracts. That matters to many DACH buyers. Odoo Online and Odoo.sh run in Odoo's own regions, and an on-premise Odoo keeps the data on servers you choose.

How does weclapp pricing compare with Odoo 20 pricing?

weclapp vs Odoo 20: Which ERP fits your SME?

weclapp pricing climbs by package, from EUR 39 to EUR 163 per user a month, while Odoo 20 pricing stays at one per-user rate that already includes every app. So the gap widens fast once your team needs stock and production.

On weclapp's pricing page, the yearly prices are EUR 39 for Starter, EUR 86 for Services and EUR 163 for Trade, per user a month, net of VAT. Monthly billing raises Services to EUR 95 and Trade to EUR 179. Starter is monthly only and cannot be combined with other packages.

Extras add up. weclapp's Contract Management, Helpdesk and weclappPOS add-ons cost from EUR 55 a month per user. Single licences such as Warehouse or Production start at EUR 49 a month, but only alongside the Services or Trade package.

Odoo prices come from the Odoo pricing page as shown in the US; new customers get a first-year discount to US$24.90 and US$49.00. Odoo shows euro prices by location, so check your local page before you build a business case.

What does a 10-user team pay on weclapp vs Odoo?

For a 10-user trading company, list licences on weclapp Trade cost several times more than Odoo, but implementation narrows the gap in year one. The figures below are illustrative, built only from list prices.

Illustrative 10-user costweclapp TradeOdoo StandardOdoo Custom

Two warnings apply. weclapp offers a custom quote with price advantages from 10 users, so your real number may be lower. And the currencies differ, so convert at the date you compare.

Odoo setup is not free either. See our published Odoo implementation cost ranges, broken down later in this guide, and our Odoo pricing guide for costs beyond licences.

Where does weclapp beat Odoo?

weclapp beats Odoo when a small German team wants to start fast, keep data in Germany and let the vendor handle everything. These are the cases where we would tell you to stay.

  • Fast start: a 30-day free trial and packages that come preconfigured for trade or services.
  • German hosting: weclapp states that data stays in German data centers and contracts follow German law.
  • Low admin: maintenance, updates, daily backups and email support are included in every package.
  • Simple scope: one company, standard order flows and no multi-step production rarely need more.
  • Tax advisor licence: weclapp lists a free tax consultant licence, which suits firms that work closely with a Steuerberater.

If your processes fit the package and you have under 10 users, a switch may not pay back yet.

Where does Odoo 20 beat weclapp?

Odoo 20 beats weclapp once you need deep manufacturing, several companies, custom logic or many users at a lower per-user price. These are the triggers we see most in DACH SMEs.

  • Price at scale: every Odoo app sits in one per-user price, so adding stock, production or helpdesk does not move you to a dearer package.
  • Light Users: Odoo 20 adds a Light User at US$8.90 or EUR 7.90 for employees who do not need a full user.
  • Multi-company: intercompany flows and consolidated reporting are built in on the Custom plan.
  • Customization: Studio covers fields, views and reports, and Python modules cover the rest.
  • Hosting and exit: run Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise, and keep a full copy of your database.
  • AI built in: Odoo 20 AI features run on Odoo AI credits at EUR 1 per credit, with no separate AI vendor contract.

weclapp users report friction too. On a public review site, one IT services reviewer called recent price increases not reasonable, but stays because switching is hard. Our Odoo 20 release notes show what is new.

weclapp vs Odoo for German compliance: DATEV, GoBD and e-invoicing

Both weclapp and Odoo cover DATEV exports and e-invoicing, so German compliance rarely decides the choice on its own. The detail matters for your tax advisor, though.

weclapp lists DATEV and BMD exports among its features and e-invoicing in every package. Odoo's Germany fiscal localization adds SKR03 and SKR04, DATEV DATA and ATCH exports, and UStVA returns to Elster.

Odoo's German package turns on the audit trail by default for GoBD and supports a Fiskaly cloud TSE for POS. With Odoo e-invoicing over Peppol, you can send XRechnung CIUS invoices, and registration is free.

Our advice: before the switch, agree with your Steuerberater which system holds the books for the cutover year. A clean split at a fiscal year end keeps the DATEV history simple.

Manufacturing and warehouse: weclapp Trade vs Odoo MRP

weclapp Trade covers merchandise management, warehouse, serial numbers and basic production, while Odoo runs full MRP and warehouse logic in the same database. This is the most common reason product companies move.

weclapp Trade includes warehouse management with a mobile warehouse app, serial and batch numbers, production, and shop and marketplace connections such as Shopware, Shopify, Amazon and eBay. For distributors and light assembly, that is often enough.

Odoo Manufacturing plans manufacturing orders and runs work orders from a shop floor panel on tablets, with quality and subcontracting built in. See Odoo ERP for manufacturing.

Test three of your real BOMs, one with subcontracting, in both systems before you decide.

When does switching from weclapp to Odoo pay off?

Switching from weclapp to Odoo pays off when your yearly licence savings and avoided workarounds cover the migration within two to three years. Answer these six questions to see where you stand.

  1. Users: will you pass 10 to 15 users on Trade within two years?
  2. Package creep: are you paying for add-ons or single licences on top of your package?
  3. Production: do you need routings, work orders, subcontracting or quality checks?
  4. Entities: will you add a second company, a subsidiary in Austria or Switzerland, or a new site?
  5. Workarounds: do teams keep Excel sheets next to weclapp for processes it does not cover?
  6. Control: do you need your own hosting, a full database copy or custom code?

If three or more answers are yes, model a three-year total. Example, illustrative only: saving EUR 10,000 a year in licences pays back a EUR 20,000 project in about two years. Our Odoo migration cost calculator gives a first estimate.

How to switch from weclapp to Odoo: the migration path

A weclapp migration is a re-implementation in Odoo with a clean data load, not a copy of weclapp. Plan it in phases and keep weclapp running until Odoo is proven.

  1. Map processes: list order to cash, procure to pay, production and month-end as they run today, including the Excel workarounds.
  2. Design in Odoo: set up the target flows in standard Odoo first, and add custom code only where it pays.
  3. Export early: weclapp says data is deleted after cancellation, so export everything you need while your licence is active.
  4. Clean and map: dedupe customers and products, map weclapp fields to Odoo fields, and assign external IDs.
  5. Load in batches: import master data, then open orders, open invoices, stock and opening balances.
  6. Test with real cases: run a full month of orders, purchases and DATEV exports in a test database.
  7. Cut over: go live at a month or year end, run a short parallel period, then cancel weclapp at the end of its term.
DataMove to Odoo?Note

Open orders and invoicesYesLoad as open items, reconcile totals
Stock and serial numbersYesCount at cutover; load by location and lot
Closed years and historyArchiveKeep exports and DATEV data for retention
IntegrationsRebuildUse Odoo's JSON-2 API, not legacy RPC

Two traps cause most delays. First, weclapp's yearly licences can only be cancelled at the end of the term, so time the go-live to it. Second, build integrations on the Odoo JSON-2 API, because XML-RPC and JSON-RPC are deprecated in Odoo 20.

Their removal is scheduled for Odoo 22; our guide to moving integrations to the JSON-2 API explains it. Do not count on a ready connector: a weclapp connector for Odoo 16 was unpublished.

What does a weclapp migration cost and how long does it take?

A weclapp to Odoo migration for an SME usually lands in our mid-size range of US$9k to US$27k over 8 to 14 weeks, plus data migration. Scope, data quality and production depth move the number most.

  • Small: one company, sales, stock and accounting, under 10 users: US$3k to US$9k, 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Mid-size: trade plus production or eCommerce, 10 to 50 users: US$9k to US$27k, 8 to 14 weeks.
  • Large: several companies, plants or deep custom code: US$27k to US$150k+, 12 to 24 weeks.
  • Data migration: US$1.2k to US$9k, depending on source system and years of history.

These are our published ranges, not quotes. Plan internal time too: key users from finance, sales and the warehouse will test every week.

Which industries gain most from moving off weclapp?

Manufacturers, multi-channel retailers and multi-company groups gain most from moving to Odoo, while simple service firms often gain least. The table shows where each system usually lands.

weclapp migration case study: EvoLogics

A German subsea technology company moved three Odoo versions with custom workflows intact and less than a day of cutover downtime. It was a version migration, not a weclapp switch, but the method is the same.

EvoLogics, based in Germany, builds underwater communication and robotic systems. Its Odoo 12 Enterprise system carried significant custom workflow code, and as an operating manufacturer it could not absorb meaningful ERP downtime.

We audited every custom module, ported the code to Odoo 15 Enterprise, ran a full regression pass on the migrated database, then cut over. The project took 12 weeks, with under one day of cutover downtime.

Their IT Manager said: "A three-version jump with barely any downtime. Our engineering and production data came through clean, and the team was productive on day one." See the EvoLogics Odoo 12 to 15 migration case study.

The bottom line on weclapp vs Odoo

Stay on weclapp if you are a small, single-company team whose processes fit the package; move to Odoo 20 when users, production, entities or custom logic make weclapp's packages a ceiling. The switch pays off when the three-year total says so.

Price both sides with your real user count, add migration cost, and test three key processes in Odoo before you commit. Time the go-live to your weclapp contract end, and export your data before you cancel.
