SYSPRO to Odoo Migration: Reasons, Data Mapping, Cost and Cutover Plan
Plan a SYSPRO to Odoo migration before your licence expires: why sites switch, how SYSPRO tables map to Odoo, real cost ranges and a cutover checklist.
Leaving SYSPRO is a big call. Our SYSPRO to Odoo migration services start with a data and process review, so you know what moves, what you archive and what it costs.
This guide is for owners, finance leads and operations managers at SYSPRO sites. If you run another older system, our legacy ERP replacement plan covers the wider retirement decision.
Why are SYSPRO users moving to Odoo now?
SYSPRO users are moving now because SYSPRO's licence change forces a decision: subscribe to SYSPRO or move to another ERP by a fixed date.
In a July 2026 notice, SYSPRO said it is ending its Initial License Fee and Annual License Fee model for all customers, in favor of named-user subscriptions.
Current licences stay in force until 31 October 2026 for customers outside the US and 31 December 2026 for US customers. After that date, the notice says, customers who have not subscribed "will no longer be able to access" SYSPRO.
SYSPRO says customers may export their data when the licence ends, using a process it provides on request. Ask for it in writing, even if you subscribe for a bridge period.
Other reasons we hear from SYSPRO sites:
- Version drift: SYSPRO 7 was retired in July 2023, and SYSPRO 8 releases from 2020 to 2023 are in the legacy phase.
- Server upkeep: SYSPRO's Web UI guidance assumes Windows Server and IIS, which means servers to patch.
- Process friction: manual steps between purchasing, receipting, landed costs and invoicing.
SYSPRO vs Odoo: how do the two ERPs compare?

SYSPRO is a manufacturing and distribution ERP with a long Windows and SQL Server heritage, while Odoo is a modular ERP that runs in the cloud or on your own servers with every app in one database.
| Factor | SYSPRO | Odoo |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing from 2026 | Named-user subscription only | Per user, all apps included; One App Free plan |
| Indicative price | Third-party estimate about US$150 per user a month, 10-user minimum | US$31.10 Standard or US$61.00 Custom per user a month, billed yearly |
| Hosting | Windows and SQL Server stack, run by you or a partner | Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers |
| Manufacturing | Bills of materials, WIP jobs, requirements planning | Bills of materials, work orders, MRP, quality, PLM |
| Integrations | SYSPRO business objects and SQL | JSON-2 external API on the Custom plan |
The SYSPRO figure is a third-party directory estimate, not a SYSPRO list price. Odoo prices come from the Odoo pricing page, with lower first-year rates for new customers.
Is Odoo a good SYSPRO alternative for manufacturers and distributors?
Odoo is a strong SYSPRO alternative for small and mid-size manufacturers and distributors, but not for every SYSPRO site.
Odoo fits well when you need:
- One database: sales, purchase, stock, manufacturing, quality, accounting and HR without nightly syncs.
- Standard discrete manufacturing: multi-level bills of materials, routings, work centers and work orders, covered in Odoo's bill of materials documentation.
- Importers and distributors: freight, duty and insurance spread onto product cost with Odoo landed costs.
- Remote access: a browser and mobile interface with role-based access, without a terminal server.
Think harder if you rely on complex formula costing, heavy SYSPRO custom programs or many SYSPRO add-ons. These need a fit-gap review first.

What SYSPRO data should you migrate to Odoo?
Migrate the data you need to trade on day one, and archive the rest. Loading twenty years of transactions adds cost and risk without helping anyone.
| Data | Move to Odoo | Archive outside Odoo |
|---|---|---|
| Customers, suppliers, stock codes | Active records | Inactive and obsolete records |
| Bills of materials and routings | Current, approved structures | Superseded revisions |
| Sales and purchase orders | Open orders and lines | Closed orders |
| Jobs (WIP) | Open jobs, as manufacturing orders | Closed jobs and cost history |
| Ledger | Chart of accounts, opening balances, open AR and AP | Detailed history |
| Lots and serials | Lots and serials on hand | Full trace history |
Keep the archive searchable. A read-only SQL database with a few saved reports is often enough for auditors and recall checks. Our Odoo database migration guide explains how we validate loads and reconcile counts.
SYSPRO to Odoo data mapping: which tables go where?
SYSPRO stores data in SQL tables such as InvMaster, ArCustomer, SorMaster, BomOperations and WipMaster, and each one maps to a standard Odoo model.
| SYSPRO area (example table) | Odoo target | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Customers (ArCustomer) and suppliers | Contacts (res.partner) | Firms that are both; merge duplicates |
| Stock codes (InvMaster) | Products (product.template) | Codes that are really variants |
| Warehouse stock | Warehouses, locations, quants | Load as an opening inventory adjustment |
| Sales orders (SorMaster) | Sales orders (sale.order) | Open lines only |
| Bill of materials structure | Bills of materials (mrp.bom) | Phantom parts become kits |
| Routings (BomOperations) | Operations and work centers | Load work centers first |
| Jobs (WipMaster) | Manufacturing orders (mrp.production) | Partly issued material on open jobs |
| Lots and serials | Lots and serial numbers (stock.lot) | Purged lot history |
| General ledger accounts | Chart of accounts (account.account) | Accountant sign-off on the map |
We keep the SYSPRO key on every Odoo record, so loads can be re-run and traced. Odoo's import guide recommends an External ID column, and says an ID from previous software can be used to make the transition easier.
How do you get data out of SYSPRO before the licence ends?
Get a full SQL backup and a documented export before your licence expiry date, then run every trial load from that copy.
- Ask for the export process: write to your SYSPRO account manager now and confirm what they provide and when.
- Back up every company database: include the system database, custom form data and document attachments.
- Record the version: note your SYSPRO 8 release, since table columns change between releases.
- Extract to staging: copy the tables you need into a staging database for cleaning.
- Freeze the archive: keep one untouched copy as your legal record.
If your expiry date has passed and you did not subscribe, contact SYSPRO about data export straight away.
How much does a SYSPRO to Odoo migration cost?
Most mid-size SYSPRO to Odoo projects land between about $10k and $36k for data migration and implementation together, before licences.
| Cost item | Typical range | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Data migration from SYSPRO | $1.2k to $9k | Source tables, years of history, data quality |
| Odoo implementation, mid-size | $9k to $27k, 8 to 14 weeks | Apps, users, manufacturing depth |
| Odoo implementation, large or multi-plant | $27k to $150k+, 12 to 24 weeks | Sites, companies, custom modules |
| Odoo licences | US$31.10 or US$61.00 per user a month, yearly | Standard or Custom plan |
| Integrations | Quoted per connector | Shop floor, EDI, eCommerce, banks |
| SYSPRO archive | Internal effort or small fixed scope | Reporting needs for audits and recalls |
These are our published ranges from the Odoo implementation cost guide, not fixed quotes. For a first number on your own data, use the Odoo migration cost calculator.
Most SYSPRO sites need the Custom plan. Odoo's external API documentation says API access is only available on Custom, and Custom also adds multi-company, Studio and Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting.
Illustrative, for 30 users: Odoo Custom is about US$21,960 a year; at the third-party SYSPRO estimate of US$150, about US$54,000. Get a real SYSPRO quote before you compare.
How long does a SYSPRO to Odoo migration take, and what is the cutover plan?
A focused mid-size migration takes 8 to 14 weeks from kickoff to go-live, with the final cutover done over one weekend. Multi-plant or heavily customized sites take 12 to 24 weeks.
Our cutover plan for SYSPRO projects:
- Freeze the setup: lock accounts, product categories, warehouses and work centers in Odoo.
- Run two trial loads: load in dependency order, then reconcile against SYSPRO.
- Test with users: key users run real orders, jobs and month-end steps.
- Bulk load early: load masters in the week before cutover while SYSPRO still runs.
- Freeze SYSPRO: stop new transactions at close of business.
- Load the delta: open orders, open jobs, stock on hand, open AR and AP, final balances.
- Reconcile and sign off: finance signs the trial balance, aged debtors, aged creditors and stock value.
- Go live on a Monday: with consultants available for the first days.
If you are a US customer facing 31 December 2026, eight weeks is tight for a full manufacturing rollout. A short SYSPRO subscription as a bridge, or an early finance-first go-live, is often the safer route.
What usually breaks in a SYSPRO to Odoo migration?
The problems are rarely the masters; they are open jobs, costs, lots and the reports people forgot they used.
- Open jobs: material already issued to a SYSPRO job must land in Odoo as consumed, or stock and WIP value will not tie out.
- Costing method: pick FIFO, average or standard cost in Odoo before loading stock, and agree how opening values are set.
- Bill of materials shape: SYSPRO phantoms, by-products and alternate routings need explicit rules in Odoo.
- Lot history: load lots on hand with Odoo lot tracking, and keep old trace data in the archive.
- Reports and integrations: list every SYSPRO report, export and connection, then decide which to rebuild.
New integrations should use Odoo's JSON-2 API, since XML-RPC and JSON-RPC are deprecated in Odoo 20 and scheduled for removal in Odoo 22. Our JSON-2 API migration guide shows the change.
For production setup in Odoo, our Odoo BOM and production planning guide walks through routings, MRP and work orders.

The bottom line on SYSPRO to Odoo migration
If SYSPRO's licence change has you reviewing your ERP, Odoo is a credible, lower-cost target for most small and mid-size manufacturers and distributors. The deciding work is data scope and open jobs, not the software choice.
Secure a full SYSPRO backup first, decide what to archive, and price a five-year total on both sides. If your deadline is close, buy time with a bridge rather than rush a manufacturing go-live.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is happening to SYSPRO licences in 2026?
+
SYSPRO is ending its licence fee model and moving all customers to named-user subscriptions. Current licences expire on 31 October 2026 outside the US and 31 December 2026 in the US.
Can I keep using SYSPRO after my licence expires?
+
Only with a new SYSPRO subscription. SYSPRO's notice says that without one you will no longer be able to access the software after your expiry date, so secure a full data backup first.
Can I export my data from SYSPRO?
+
Yes. SYSPRO says customers have the right to export their data when the licence ends and that it provides a process on request. Ask your account manager before your expiry date.
Is Odoo a good alternative to SYSPRO?
+
For most small and mid-size manufacturers and distributors, yes. Odoo covers BOMs, work orders, MRP, landed costs, lots and accounting in one database. Very complex process manufacturing needs a fit-gap review first.
How much does it cost to migrate from SYSPRO to Odoo?
+
Our published data migration range is $1.2k to $9k, and a mid-size Odoo implementation is $9k to $27k. Odoo licences are extra, at US$31.10 or US$61.00 per user a month billed yearly.
How long does a SYSPRO to Odoo migration take?
+
A focused mid-size project usually takes 8 to 14 weeks. Multi-plant or heavily customized sites take 12 to 24 weeks. The final cutover itself is normally one weekend.
Should I migrate all my SYSPRO history into Odoo?
+
Usually not. Move masters, open transactions and opening balances, and keep closed jobs and old transactions in a read-only archive that auditors and quality teams can search.
What happens to open SYSPRO jobs at cutover?
+
Open jobs become Odoo manufacturing orders, with material already issued recorded as consumed. Closed jobs and their cost history stay in the archive, since they have no clean one-to-one target.
