The challenge
SF Plastic & Sign Supply distributes plastics and sign-making materials to fabricators through a wholesale web store. The business was anchored to Odoo 9 — two major versions behind — with a dated storefront, no modern payment gateway, and search rankings that its digital marketing agency could not improve within the old theme.
- Odoo 9 core meant missing features and a shrinking upgrade path.
- The storefront design and page performance lagged the brand and hurt SEO.
- Checkout lacked an integrated card payment gateway.
- Deployments and server upkeep consumed internal attention.
Our approach
iVentureTeam sequenced the modernization so the store kept trading throughout: migrate first, then redesign, then extend.
Staged migration: v9 → v10 → v12
- Migrated the full database and customizations from Odoo 9 to Odoo 10, validating each business flow.
- Executed the second jump to Odoo 12, shipping the new theme design in the same cutover.
Storefront, SEO, and payments
- Built the website theme to the client's supplied design, with performance and SEO optimization baked in.
- Developed SEO modules and on-site changes to the digital marketing agency's guidelines.
- Integrated the Braintree payment gateway for card payments at checkout.
Back end and operations
- Delivered back-end customizations matching SF Plastic's wholesale workflows.
- Moved deployment to Odoo.sh and assumed ongoing server management.
Outcomes
The wholesaler now runs a current Odoo version, a storefront built for search, and payments that clear without manual handling — with iVentureTeam operating the infrastructure behind it.
- Order-to-cash runs on Odoo 12 with Braintree handling cards end to end.
- SEO work happens in-platform, following the marketing agency's playbook.
- Releases deploy through Odoo.sh instead of ad-hoc server work.
“Two version jumps and our store came out faster and cleaner on the other side. Orders, history, everything intact.”
